A Parents Role

Youth need the encouragement of their parents/guardian to get them started in a 4-H career. 4-H is a family organization that promotes the adult/youth partnership.

Ways you can assist your child:

  Provide encouragement and take an interest in their 4-H projects and activities.

  Help them understand the value of working on projects, completing duties and following through on commitments and responsibilities.

Make sure that they attend the meetings regularly.

  Provide support by attending the meetings yourself to stay connected to your child's responsibilities as a 4-H member. Your presence tells them the importance that you place on their choices to grow and advance their learning opportunities.

Help with various activities. Choose the level of participation that works for you. Ways include:

Attend and observe the meeting and activities.

  Help-out when help is needed.

  Provide transportation to activities.

  Help with a Committee or activity

  Help with a project.

Become a project leader .
